I use a DTS task to replicate datasets from a Central database. I'm using DTS just to copy objects into a new database and then run SP's to inject the records into the new db based on some conditions.

Most of the time I run the DTS task to copy objects, sql seems to forget dependencies and tries to copy dependent objects (like views, sp & functions) before others. Due to this the task fails. I have to then go thru the log and find out which objects failed. I edit each of these objects in enterprise manager and add a blank like or delete one from the vw, sp or fn. This some how restores the dependencies and the DTS task runs fine and everyone around cheers!!

(I took me ages and quite a few sleepless nights to figure this workaround, so even i don't mind basking under these ppl's brightly lit faces! )

Why does this happen everytime?!? Am i doing anything wrong?!? I rarely use Enterprise Manager and do most of my sql scripting using SQL Analyzer. Is there anyway to ensure correct depends everytime."

you used the wizard for the dts package? how it happened why dependencies where not copied first, i cannot answer (especially for wizards)

design your own dts package to define the task flow
