Hi,

I'm trying to do a simple DTS export on a SQL server database on which I have admin rights. I select my source database (no table selected at this point), login, select my target (a txt file that I created on my desktop). I then just press Next, keeping "Copy table(s) and view(s) from the source database", then try to use the "Source:" dropdown to select a source, but it is empty. I cannot keep going at that point.
Any idea why I am having this kind of behaviour?

The database I am trying to export is NOT empty, and the same behaviour happens if I try to export directly from a table. Using the Query builder is no different, as I see my database without any tables to select to query on...

Any help or hints would be more than appreciated,
Thanks,
Karim Saliba

What SQL SERVER ARE YOU USING? I don't find the same sequence when I attempt this on SQL Server 2000 DTS.

Thanks for replying so fast!

I am using SQL server 2000 with service pack 3 installed.

I also tried exporting to a file name in a directory without spaces in its name such as C:\tmp\filename.txt

The same problem occured :(

I'm still blocked, and can't find any doc to save me anywhere!

Thanks,
Karim, still

I have SQL Server 2000 service pack 4. I still can't duplicate your problem. Would you be more specific, please?

Hi,

What I'm trying to do is to export the contents of my tables into a comma separated text file.
I am trying to use DTS to do this, as it seems the easiest way to do so. I am thus exporting from a database called LactantiaWinter into a file (C:\tmp\LactantiaWinter.txt)

The problem doesn't seem to come from the DTS wizard, as further testing on another database showed that the dropdown DID have a list of tables to chose from. The problems comes from something that I need to set in the LactantiaWinter database to have a list of tables. Any clues to what the issue is?
I know the database has tables and that those tables are not empty (from looking at them through entreprise manager for example).

Any clues?

Thanks,
Karim Saliba

SQL Server 2000 service pack 4 hasn't been released yet (it's currently in beta). Are you referring to the Windows service pack level instead? To see the SQL Server 2000 sp level, you run SELECT @@VERSION inside Query Analyzer.

I stand corrected, Tara....I ran SELECT @@VERSION and got:

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 (Intel X86)
Dec 17 2002 14:22:05
Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation
Enterprise Edition on Windows NT 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)

I still can't duplicate his problem, though

OK, the database is actually unusable, and I am now in the process of trying to restore it.
I'll let you guys know if I have issues exporting when that is done
In any case,
Thank you very much for your time and replies.
Take care,
Ciao, Karim Saliba
