I am not sure if this is even a DTS subject.

I have a database at my office that needs to check to make sure that the Vendor IDs that it stores match the Vendor IDs that are stored in another database on a different server on a different domain. Currently, this task is accomplished via a person talking to another person over the phone. It seems like a simple thing for a SQL server to do behind the scenes. Both databases are SQL2000.

I am not looking for specific code, but can you experts point me in a general direction? If I can get the two databases to talk to eachother, this is a simple query to make sure that the Vendor IDs jive with one another. Is this a DTS thing? Or is there a more direct way to do this through a Job?

Thanks all!

Aj

Look up Linked Servers on Books Online.

You can do this via linked servers.

This will show the differences:

SELECT *
FROM SourceDatabase.dbo.SomeTable t1
FULL OUTER JOIN LinkedServerName.DestinationDatabase.dbo.SomeTable t2
ON t1.SomeColumn = t2.SomeColumn
WHERE t1.SomeColumn IS NULL OR t2.SomeColumn IS NULL
