hello,

How would I check from DTS to see if the Excel sheet is open by another user and close the user out before the package transfer?

I don't know if Excel has those capabilities, it's not like Access where it generates a log file. If you want to research about Excel more, here is a link about the API:

I would suggest NOT exporting data via DTS into a live workbook. Export to an isolated workbook and copy the file to its final destination. Even if you COULD determine if someone was using it, you won't be able to kick them out. It's much easier to do it the other way.
