So here's the question:A SQL server (server A) in our office blew up the other day, and had to be restaged (wiped completely, start fresh) the database that had been on the machine had a backup copy on another sql server (server B), so recovering the data was (possibly) not a problem. When the new installation of SQL server was in place and stable (all patches and service packs applied)the database was copied over (i'm not sure how) from server B to server A. At that point in time I began to configure server A to be a publisher for replication through the replication wizard. Before I configured server B for subscription, another IT staff member ixnayed it, and I removed the publishing from server A. Is there anyway possible at all that the setup of the publication caused tables to be dropped in anyway? Here's why I ask- In a meeting the other day regarding the data stability in the environment, I was brought to task for creating the publication, and supposedly causing the table droppage. But this accusation came from the same person who copied over the tables, so how do I know the tables didn't get dropped when the were 'copied' over?Appreciate the help, as I'm pretty much on the hot seat.

Deleting a publication does NOT delete the tables involved in the article. Even when you delete the subscription, it doesn't do this either in the subscribing database.Tara

you- warrior queen to be- ROCK. I knew I wasn't the bad guy in this one. 2 things then open: What could the possible loss of tables be attributed to? and, it's not that I don't believe you, but is there any documentation you could point me to that back up what I thought and you so nobly seconded?any help is greatly appreciated.

dropping the publication will not drop tablesthere must be an interim activity somewhere after the drop publication which resulted to the dropped tables. you can check BOL for the documentation for sp_droppublication--------------------keeping it simple...

You could always test it out yourself on a test machine to prove to them that it doesn't drop the tables.Tara
