i'm trying to import an access database into SQL so I can manipulate the data better. Then when I'm done export it back to the mbd format. How can I do this without using a dsn...file or otherwise. Because I'm not even sure what a dsn is.

You could try using DTS. You could dump your access information into temporary staging tables, clean up the data, then move the data from your temp staging tables back to your access database. This may be overkill though...
