We're doing an Oracle to Sql Server DTS with the oracle ole db provider and one of the data pump tasks is failing and saying

Step Error Source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services (DTS) Package
Step Error Description:Catastrophic failure

Step Error code: 8007FFFF
Step Error Help File:sqldts80.hlp
Step Error Help Context ID:4700

Now, a catastrophic failure sounds real bad like, but it's a fairly useless error message in terms of diagnosis.

Anyone come across this? Solutions?

Ooh No!
You've really bust it now

Nah, I've had those errors before and then restarted the job a few minutes later and it would execute perfectly.

I think the dba was busy doing something at the time.

that article seems to imply that you are running a really old MDAC, is that true?

I don't think that that applies, we're using the Oracle provider.
