Hello:

I accidentally deleted a .bak file. I could recover it but when I try to restore it on the base of data, it present the following error:

---------------------------------------------

Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000)

Error: 3241

The media family on device 'E:\Backup\ACNIelsen_25_04_03.bak' is incorrectly formed. SQL Server cannot process this media family. RESTORE FILELIST is terminating abnormally

---------------------------------------------

I think that the file should have a problem, but their size seems correct. Does any form exist of repairing this file or of extracting their information?

Please, I need their help urgent.

thank you

P.D. Excuseme by my English

Which .bak file did you delete? The one that you are restoring? I am unclear as to what the problem is. Please explain further:

What is the command that you are running to get this error? Does the backup file exist on disk? Did you accidentally delete the bak file or objects/data in the database?

Need more information...

Hi:

The problem is presented when I try to restore the .bak in the Enterprise Manager. The .bak file exists in the hard disk.

I accidentally deleted a .bak file and I could recover it with a program in order to recover files eliminated of the hard disk.

I wait for that this time clearer east.

Thank you.

But why do you want to restore the database? Is the database damaged? Did you recover the deleted file from a backup from tape? Have you checked the SQL Server error logs to determine if the backup was completely successfully when the actual backup of the database occurred?

Hi:

The base of data this perfect. The backup was completely successfully. After that, I delete it accidentally of the hard disk. Could recover it, but when I try to restore it again on the base of data, the error leaves.

I think that upon recovering the file, something was lost or damage.

Thank you for your aid and excuse be not clear, but my english are not good.

Andres

But why do you want to restore the database if the database is perfect? Just because you accidentally deleted the backup file from the disk, doesn't mean that you have to restore the file or the database.

I restore an old backup in order to recover data, but it doesn't have all the objects of the base of data, it that is why is that I should restore the .bak that recovers. In this file are the last version of the base of data.

Your backup file is indeed bad. Do you have any other more recent backup files on tape?
