How do i add a timestamp column to the existing table ? I want to have some reference to the dates to check that my text file import into the database occurs everyday successfully .

Thanks for your help .

Just to clarify, in SQL Server a timestamp data/column type is NOT a date/time value, as defined in the SQL standard. You'd want to add a datetime column, the following should do:

ALTER TABLE myTable ADD LoadDate datetime DEFAULT (getdate())

This adds a column called "LoadDate" and sets a default value of the current date and time. See Books Online for more information.
