Modifying Defined Column size in TransformDataTask

I have a DTS already setup that uses the Transform Data Task to output to a text file. It has destination columns already defined. I need to modify the size of one of the columns as the requirements of the output file format have changed.

I go into the Destination tab and go to the Defined Columns option, but can not modify the column size parameter. It does not let me overtype the number. I do not want to use the Populate from Source option because other columns will change that does not need to be changed.

How can I update a single column size?

Thank you

didnt understand what you mean by change only one column? The file datatypes will be automatically assumed based on definition of source table columns.

Thank you for the quick response.

Several of the file datatypes do not match the definition of the source table columns. Some of the file datatypes are set to size 0 while the table columns are size 20. And one file datatype is set to size 3 while the table column is size 50.

I am newly supporting this DTS as the person who created and supported it has left our company. I do not know too much about its history. It is possible that the table columns have changed wile the file datatype has not.

I have been asked to modify a table column from size 50 to 25. I also want to change the corresponding file datatype in the DTS. I do not want to update all of the file datatypes because I do not know how it will affect the output file and the programs using it. All I want to do is change the one column. Can that be done?

Thanks again,
