My DTS package editor is always freezing up on me. It will lock up if I hit the data driven query task or if I right click on certain data pumps an select 'properties'.

I've already reinstalled my client tools, are any of you experiencing this? Any ideas how I can minimize this, since I am at a standstill?

You don't mention how many transformations you've got...and I'll bet your transforming an access database with a lot of objects...

Everytime you open that up, DTS has to read all of the collections to figure out what's going on..

If there a ton of objects...it'll look like it's frozen...it's just taking a long time to revalute everything

Mak a copy of the access database and only use the objects you need.

That is if that's what you're doing...

That has been one of my experiences...

You should install service pack 3a on your client machine. Service packs are not only for the servers but they are also for the clients. But the recommendation is that both the client and the server should be on the same service pack. A lot of people experience problems with DTS when not on the same service pack.

Thanks Tara,

Never knew that...

Fortunatley, it's not really a problem...I tend to stay away from DTS...

But still good to know...what else does it fix?

I try to stay away from it as well. Not sure what the service packs do on a client machine, but you'll find some quirky things happening in DTS if you are on a different service pack level than the server. This was definitely true in 7.0. I haven't seen it happen in 2000 yet, but it's still a good idea to be on the same service pack as the server.
