I have been asked to investigate replication of SQL Server 2000. We are looking to replicate our SQL Server 2000 DB for both:

- a disaster recovery remote site backup (probably using transactional replication)
- access to the DB on a separate network without a continuous connection (probably using merge replication)

I have found a number of articles describing the theory behind the different replication facilities of SQL server 2000 but was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some more practical information about how you actually go about implementing the replication, particularly implementing both types of replication to different subscribers but with the same distributor?

This is all brand new to me and so any and all help would be gratefully appreciated.

you must be talking about SQL 2005? SQL 2000 is out of support except for custom support.. .Books online in SQL 2005 has excellent step by step instructions in setting up repolication...

Unfortunately, no. I am talking about SQL Server 2000. My company is a little slow at upgrading!

I will have a look at BOL though and see what I can find. Thanks.

use transactional replication, set it for 15min
Set up multiple subscribers. There are not much traffic after initial deployment.
I am not sure what is your intent for the replicated db. But I am using it for reporting only on production server. DR - just nice to have lates set of data, if backup transfer will failed.
