hi
i have two machine
machine A when i give c:\osql \? i get to see -D ODBC dsn name
machine B when i give c:\osql \? i DONT GET to see -D ODBC dsn name
WHY???

Perhaps you've got different versions of the client tools installed on both machines.

Apply the same service pack to both machines. Service packs aren't only for the servers. They should be applied to the clients as well.

If that doesn't work, then I'm outta ideas.

i reinstalled my sql server client 2000 adding all the supplied tools then to i am unable to get the osql -D option

Well the latest for SQL Server 2000 is service pack 4.
