| I need a way to do simple full backups that I can Restore or ship and add to another server. Data doesn't get added to these very often but after each field season they need to be shipped to the regional managers who will analyze all the databases from everybody individualy. I am looking for something that I can simply restore over the top of an existing database or email the file and they can "add" (really probably just a restore) to there server. I am thinking DTS or SQL-DMO but I don't know if you can do DTS disconnected. Right now we use DTS to copy while connected but this would be a disconnected scenerio. I am using SQL-DMO in .net to allow users to do replication so that route would work also. Thanks for any ideas. Shane |

| So why not just do:BACKUP DATABASE DBNameGoesHereTO DISK = 'E:\MSSQL\BACKUP\DBName.BAK'WITH INITThen copy this file to whatever server needs it, then:RESTORE DATABASE DBNameGoesHereFROM DISK = 'E:\SomeLocation\DBName.BAK'WITH REPLACEIf the MDF and LDF file locations are different, then you'll also need the MOVE option for the RESTORE command.Tara |
