| Arun Shankar writes "Hi,I am in the process of setting up Transactional replication to have a copy of the Production DBs. Here are the details on the environment:OS - Windows Advanced Server 2000 with latest SPSQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition with SP3aQuestions:1. I need to replicate the entire DB tables, views and other related objects from the production server to a staging area. Along with the data from publisher, I need to track the Publisher name in the Subscriber tables. Is this possible?2. Can I have multiple Publishers pointing to a single subscriber? What are the options I need to look for?3. The transaction replication is planned to happen every 4 hrs. What are the performance issues I need to worry about? Please let me know for the following. Thanks in advance,Arun" |

| 1. possible2. yes you can. just configure the replication to do just that (same settings)3. bulk of data being modified/transferred can be affected by network instability, traffic, users accessing the publisher and subscriber database being locked out- data can be cumulative (if something happens before the 4th hour and data was not transferred)additional comment: if you're going to have a scheduled replication, use snapshot instead of transactional. if you still intend to go for transactional, use immediate updating, coz the costs are reasonably the same and you still get (almost) realtime data change.--------------------keeping it simple... |
