You might want to re-edit your subject - e.g. to "MSSQL and MySQL" - for folk that are just browsing the subjects ...

I have moved several databases between mysql and mssql with great success. The biggest issue we have run into is that on MySQL the InnoDB storage engine uses row level locking, whereas MSSQL will escalate locks to page level. We experienced more disruptive database blocking on the SQL Server system when using the same frontend code because of this.

Interesting. In my Apps I've never really found the need to worry about the effect that [absence of] row level locking would cause. Have I just been lucky?

Eyechart - Does the locking issue go away if you use the multi-row versioning in 2005?

yes, this helps a great deal. Most of my migrations were from MySQL 3.x or 4.x to SQL 2K and not SQL2K5 though.
