I have been a kernel programmer all my lfie and just switched careers into the database world. Going through the SQL Server handbook I have come across the term "legacy" quite so often. Can someone please clarify what the term means and what context is it used? Thanks.

It often means something inherited from older versions/system, still in use. It is also very hard to change the behaviour fo the legacy component.Peter LarssonHelsingborg, Sweden

It often referes to support for an older technology that is now surpassed by something new, it also often is a last call to start using the new 'stuff', because new versions will problery no longer support it.-- Alice came to a fork in the road. "Which road do I take?" she asked. "Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat. "I don't know," Alice answered. "Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."
