Brandy Jack writes "I am looking for somewhere to start to get the data dictionary out of SQL with a generic script that I can run on each SQL Server that will pull all the tables and their comments, all the colunms and their comments.
I know this is possible within the ERwin product, but are there any SQL Scripts already written that can do the same thing?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Brandy Jack"

I wrote an app that is just the thing for you. It's called sqlspec, link to it is in my sig below. Here's an example output (for a particular table in AdventureWorks):

http://www.elsasoft.org/SUMMER.AdventureWorks/table_HumanResourcesEmployee.htm (IE browsers)
http://www.elsasoft.org/tabular/SUMMER.AdventureWorks/table_HumanResourcesEmployee.htm (non IE, like Firefox, etc)

Incidentally, I also wrote scriptdb.exe, which Harsh pointed you to above. It's more for generating scripts than a real data dictionary.

Hope it helps!
