I need to figure out how to solve an equation for a sales team, I need the logic for how to solve it, before I decide where and how to calulate it. The problem is below, thanks.

The saleman here work on commission, and it is tiered based on profit margin, and they want to be able to enter in the cost of an item, along with the desired margin, and have the program figure out the total based on those values.

cost is always a known number.
profit = total - cost
margin = profit / total
I need to figure out total if cost and margin are the only ones known.
I think the folowing formula describes it better
(total - cost) / total = Margin
The only unknown in that formula is total.

Now ill use a current example.

For a big custom job coming up there is an amount of shades for a house that total $100,080 in our cost.
We want to add that to the invoice at 15% profit margin, in order to get the next level of commission.
If you just add 15% to it, that makes about a 13% profit margin, so thats no good.
so using the above formula:
(total - 100,080) / total = 15/100(15%)

How would I systematically solve this equation, I just need the logic for it.

Thanks,
Mike

Algebra 101...

Total = 100,080 / ( 1 - 0.15)
