I would like to expose a series of views to some users from a database on my SQL 2005 server. I would like to expose the views with read only access and nothing else. What is the best way to accomplish this? If the SQL client is best way, how do I install it? I have the SQL Server 2005 installation DVD.

You would do this via management studio

Create a role in the database.
Add the users to the role.
Give read access to the views to the role.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

I guess the question I should have asked is: how do I install just the Management Studio on a client machine. I have been trying to use the SQL Server 2005 installation DVD, but have not had any success.

Why would you want to install Management Studio? Your front-end application should be displaying the data from the views.

If you just want to install the Management Studio from the DVD, start a normal installation and then during the instal, when prompted to select the components to install, only select Management Tools.

But note that you do not need to install the Management Tools in order to connect to the server and use SQL Server from a user application. The client connectivity in the application (MDAC, the .NET SQL Client etc.) will do that.
