| I have table which has insertion rate of 1 rows /per min.There are hundreds of similar tables .I want to know whether to index this table (on datetime field).how much it affect the insertion performance.Thanks d17may |

| Most often indexes slow down insertion, since SQL Server has to update and manage the index after each insert statement.But 1 ins/min? That is very slow. My old laptop handles up to 41,000 single-line ins/min. |

If there is only one table then no problem .But sql server has to handle hundreds of similar tables .what is the effect on overall performanceThanks d17may |

| How often do you select form those tables? Could you add the indexes at that point, or periodically dump the data to an "indexed" table?Michael<Yoda>Use the Search page you must.
