Hi Everyone,

I have a bit of an odd query to put together, not sure what to call what I am doing. I want a query to bring back a fictional blank result (preferably not NULL, just blank space) in a report. So in addition to actual data, I want a column of blank results. Why would I want to do this? Because...

I have a web-based report app, where I create SQL queries and they show up on a web page, and users can export to Excel. This particular report is for users to tell us what they want us to do with the users: keep them, chuck them, not sure? So the users would download the excel file, mark it up and email or fax it back to us. So I need a blank column in the Excel download for users to do this. Yes I realize they could simply insert their own column, but these are not the most tech savvy of users.

My apologies if this has already been covered elsewhere. TIA

John

you can put have your select query as follows

Select filed1, field2, field3, Null as Blank_Col from table1.

This should give you a null coloumn with the name of Blank_Col

And if you want something other than Null, you can just put that in the literal portion, so you could put in '_________________' as [Action to Take] and you'll get a column labeled Action to Take with one blank line per row.
