| "Once encrypted, the definition of the trigger cannot be decrypted and cannot be viewed by anyone, including the owner of the trigger or the system administrator."Does this include the script from which the trigger was created? the trigger.sql file? |

| No, if the trigger was created from a script file, the script file is still in plain text format. Only the text of the trigger within SQL Server is encrypted.---------------------------EmeraldCityDomains.com |

No, it's the trigger definition in syscomments that is encrypted.Keep the original (readable) files/definitions secure somewhere, in case You need to see the code.rockmoose |

Lets assume you have a file somewhere called "trigger.sql"And that your script file uses the syntax "WITH ENCRYPTION".You load the script file into, say, Query Analyser and execute it on a database on your SQL Server. That Object, in the database on your SQL Server, is encypted and the souce cannot be viewed. (To test that try sp_helptext 'MyTrigger' after creating the object - try again without using the WITH ENCRYPTION statement)The original file, "trigger.sql", is NOT encrypted by this process, and will still be readable.Note, however, that the encryption used by SQL Server is very basic, and easily cracked, so you need to consider that when "relying" on WITH ENCRYPTION Kristen |
