| Can someone tell me the basic difference between a UDF and SP?I know that UDF are not ascii standard. But what is the difference in their purpose? Is it similar to Sub procedures and User-defined functions in VB? |

a sproc is a way to group many statements into one single unit.so is UDF with difference being you can call UDF for every row in resultset while you can't do the same for sproc.there's also limited stuff you can do in UDF which is nicely explained in User-defined functions section in BOL.Go with the flow & have fun! Else fight the flow |
