I'm trying to prompt for a simple string to be placed in a variable and used later in the query, but I can't find anything that will present a prompt to the user. I found UserInput, but the BOL entry is less than informative.

Thanks!

What are you using for your front end? ASP? .NET? Access? Excel? Notepad?

I'd like to do this in plain T-SQL.

So, you are saying your user is going to be using Query Analyzer? Or Enterprise Manager?

I dont think this is possible until you use stored procedure with input parameters and run it in Debug mode

It will eventually wind up in a DTS package that the user starts with the DTSRUN command.
