So back in 99 I installed O'Reilly's WebBoard forum software for a client on an NT Server. That software came bundled with MSDE for the db.In 2000 we upgraded MSDE on that server to SQL7.Now I need to migrate the WebBoard db from that server onto a new speedy Server2003.Do you know if it's possible to move the WebBoard db and install it under SQL Server 2005 Express? I wonder if I should install Express on the old box and THEN move it, or if Express will even work on the old server. Hmmmm.Tim TylerOlympia, WAtimtyler.com |

SQL Server 2005 Express is in Beta right now. I wouldn't be moving production databases over to it until it is RTMed later this year. A database in 2000 can be upgraded to 2005 via the backup/restore, sp_detach_db/sp_attach_db, upgrade wizard, or DTS. Whether or not the application will work with the upgrade database, well that's up to you to find out during testing of it.If I were you, I would remove your phone number from your post.Tara |

It should work. If not, then you can go from 7.0 to 2000 using the same methods listed above, then from 2000 to 2005.Tara |

also, webboard has a simple ODBC DSN that points to the location of the database. makes moving the database pretty easy.-ec |
