| While using Index Tuning Wizard [ I'm a rookie ;) ] is there any reason I would limit the physical space allowed for indexes? Besides free harddrive space on the server?Thanks!mike123 |

If you don't want it to add 50 indexes to each of your tables, that would be a good reason. I ran it once (ONLY ONCE! Actually someone else did. I mean it!) and it was suggesting all KINDS of indexes. Single column, multiple-column (A,B) and (B,A) combinations. We ended up adding 8 indexes to an 8 column table, that already HAD 6 indexes. Plus a half-dozen statistics. It appeared to have made some improvement but I know the insert performance has dropped quite a bit. Fortunately we rarely do multi-row operations on that table.Anyway, enough ranting. |
