in T-SQL that works the same as Replace(expression, find, replacewith[, start[, count[, compare]]]) in VBScript? I want to replace the occurence of a string only from a specified starting point until so many characters.

You might have to build your own function to accomplish all that.

Look up string functions in BOL. REPLACE and STUFF come close to what you want, give them a shot.
