SMTP Mail thru sql server-problem

Hi:
I am facing some problems when i send a mail thru smtp.I have windows 2000 server and sql serevr 2000 installed.When i run the following stored proc i am getting the error no:-2147220973
Pls help me on this..
fyi: I am to send a mail thru asp.net using smtp.

I believe that error number indicates that the SMTP server is not available. Double check that the server is started. Also test to see if you can send a message through SMTP outside of SQL Server.
