Tim writes "Hi guys

What is the best third party tool for implementing SQL Server version control.

I have a database and I need to set a process whereby my developers check stored procs etc in and out.

Cheers
Tim"

I prefer to use CVS and keep all my scripts in text files. I don't use IDE integration but it gives me a LOT more flexability.

Damian, I tried using CVS once but it went way over the top of my head. The documentation on CVSNT is quite confusing and much as I would like to use it, I can't seem to find any good resources on getting up and running with it. You know of any?

P.S. I don't have a really good idea of how source control works, I've mostly been an end-user with Visual Interdev.

Shudder

The CVSNT site got a lot better over the past year. There is a bunch of documentation and howtos there now. The main problem getting into CVS was the client software. I use www.tortoisecvs.org which turns explorer into a fantastic source control client.

It's something you need to set up a server and experiment a bunch with.

When my workload gets quiet in the new year I might do a write up on it.

Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.
