why the following brings any error:
select convert(bigint, power(2, 31) )

?

power returns the same datatype as the 2 which is int
try
select power(convert(bigint, 2), 31)

==========================================
Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.
DTS can be used in a similar way.

On SQL7.....because bigint is not a 'known' datatype.

Are you mixing sql/vb/c++ datatypes?
