Hello all, just curious...I'm relatively new to SQL Server 2000....simply been using MySQL. I'm wondering how do I evaluate the effectiveness of a stored procedure or sql statement? What is the "Estimated Execute Plan" all about?....in the diagram generated I see Execute Cost:0% good or bad? what about "Table Scan" etc??
Many thanks for your time.

Do you have SQL Sever Client tools installed?

If you do it comes with a great ref. called books online (ref. here as BOL).

Look up "Execution Plan pane"

For a start...

And Table scans are bad, unless there unavoidable...

And I don't know where you're getting execution cost of 0% unless it's on one of the steps...usually (and I've never seen it otherwise) queries total out to 100%..they just idicate which steps are taking up the most "Time".
