Sandy writes "I have a sp which when it enters a record also enters a position for retrival

data order
-------------
cat 2
dog 1
pig 4
cow 3

the sp would enter fish 3 and re-number 3 and above by adding 1 to order

data order
-------------
cat 2
dog 1
pig 5
cow 4
fish 3

this sp is call 3 time from the asp page (user can enter 3 records at a time)

sometimes the numbering goes out of sync (about once in every 30)

Could this be due to sp being run concurrently and is there any way to stop it doing this?"

What determines that they are "in synch"?

Can you explain the true business problem, or is this just an exercise. It's hard to see when you're talking about cats and dogs and the order (artificially) the belong in.
