hi orl

Installing MSDE from the Sql Server 2000 CD, I immediately get the following :

The instance name specified is invalid.

I have Windows 2000, Off 2000, MSDE 7.0 currently and EM and QA already installed.

help

well it was worth a try, but when I did
D:\MSDE\setup.exe /upgrade sqlrun
the error returned was
incorrect command line parameters

The instructions say


/upgradesp sqlrun

not

/upgrade sqlrun

could this be the problem?

yep - I think that was just a typo. I actually did upgradesp. I eventually got it going with setup.exe upgrade=1 upgradeuser=sa

and then I had to uninstall MSDE and re-install it...

But NOW it works.
