since you're all being so helpful....

How can you catch and analyse the data inserted into tables as a transaction?

ie I have a database which several people may insert into. I could trigger individual tables, but that doesn't really tell me what is going on, especially where the tables are referentially related. I want to be able to analyse the "semantic" value of what the user did, and generate a message to another process to say "hey - that guy not only inserted a new price for item #34, but he also inserted a new item #34 which wasn't there before."

One thought was to only trigger the most referentially dependent tables - which infers that the other records are there to maintain referential integrity, but I was wondering if there were any more enlightened views out there on how to do this...

PS I know it won't be easy - but that's why they pay me $2.47 per hour!!!
