New prod DB (60GB data/60GB whitespace) needs to be backed up and sent off site to vendor. Vendor has complained about the DB size and requested we remove whitespace. Naturally we are reluctant to shrink a prod DB. Is there a new function yet with ss2012 that allows a RESTORE while removing white space? Remember something around you can restore the T-Logs on target much smaller than source backup. Thanks for any advice you can give. |

No such function exists in any versions of SQL Server. Restore the database to a test machine, perform the shrink and then backup the database, preferably compressed or compress the backup file.Tara KizerSQL Server MVP since 2007http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |
