| I have a server running Windows Server 2003, MS SQL Server 2000.Two partitions (C: 140GB, D: 1,257GB) on a SCSI array.Databases are running, and backed up to D:D: currently has in excess of 1TB free space.I am currently unable to back up two of my databases to D: drive, each of which results in the following error in the event log:BackupMedium::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device 'D:\[location]\[filename]'. Operating system error 1117(error not found).The other databases on the server back up correctly.I can back the database up to the C: drive (partition of the array) with no problems, however the size of the database backup (28Gb daily) means that this is impractical.While copying the file from C: to D: windows reported that there was not enough free space, which made no sense to me as there was over a TB.I have run DBCC CHECKDB on the database, no errors found.I have run CHKDSK on the D: drive, no errors found----------------------------------------------------Any suggestions at this point would be gratefully received!Aron |

| If you got an error about free space when you were copying between C and D, then the issue is outside of SQL Server. I would suggest opening a case with Microsoft to figure out why Windows is unable to see the entire disk size.Tara KizerSQL Server MVP since 2007http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |
