Hi,

We have three servers with Windows 2000 and SQL Server running on it, nothing else. We also have 1 web server with the SMTP service running. No MAPI subsystem has been installed on the SQL Servers so the SQL MAIL and SQLAGENTMAIL will not work
(as what I've learned on the microsoft site, I can install Outlook 2000 and the MAPI subsystem will be installed).

Is there a monitoring tool (3rd party) I can use so that when it is installed, I will be able to send emails? I do not want to install outlook on the SQL Servers. Also, do I need some type of email server or the SMTP will do?

Thanks for you help,

Sas

You are going to need a mail server (exchange specifically)to set up SQL Mail....and SMTP service on the web server will not allow you to send SMTP mail from your database server...
