| Since inserting an item in a nested-set based tree meansmodifying left/right for a good deal of other items, shouldn'tthe table be locked during the insert? It seems that the "lineage" method does not require this?Locking hasn't been mentionned in the discussion: is it a problemafter all?Stephen |

| sorry - couldn't resist - I thought I was seeing double.sorry - couldn't resist - I thought I was seeing double. If you're doing your update as a stored procedure call, you won't have to worry about locking...check out "Understanding Locking in SQL Server" in BOL (books on-line). If however you're trying to do it from your web-page VBS or other, you're in for a fun ride...Edited by - rrb on 07/01/2002 20:08:21 |
