James writes "Hi, like most people here I'm new to using triggers and have a pretty basic question.

I'm developing an application that interacts with a web based SQL server.

When a record is added to a table, I need to have a file generated that pulls the up to date data from the table. Is it possible to create/write to a file from a trigger that is not interacting with any other programs?

I know you can send email this way, but I wasn't sure if you can create files.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!"

Sure - can call bcp, osql, redirection to create the file from a trigger.

Note that all the while this is happenning the trigger will be holding the transaction open so maybe it's not a good idea.
