Hello,

I've been using SQL in my current job for some time now and have a general db background. I'm thinking it would be helpful to have a cert on my resume since I'm doing contract work. What experience have others had in this realm? Any recommendations?

Thanks!
Mike

I am kind of in the same boat. My specialty is Citrix. Citrix products use a lot of SQL Databases. Back in June I couldn't even spell SQL. When I started playing around with the various components I found myself creating several SQL databases. Some would work with named instances and some wouldn't. Some used an ODBC connection and some didn't. Some required specific settings and some didn't. Then I couldn't figure out what needed to be backed up, how to restore a backup or how to recover from a crashed/deleted/corrupt database.

I decided to bite the bullet and just buckle down and learn how to spell SQL. Now I'm getting ready to to the 2005 DBA exams. The exams and certification are not a job requirement but just something I am doing to prove I have learned SQL well enough to get around. I am sure my employer will not mind having the extra points come MS partnership renewal time. And my boss has approved my exams, study materials and traveling to the exam sites as reimbursable expenses.

I have enjoyed immersing myself into SQL. I have now started being given some simple SQL assignments by my boss. And I can now talk intelligently to the DBAs at customer sites when I go to install Citrix.

I am planning to get certification in SQL server...
I have worked on SQL server Testing, Development and ETL side... Certification will help me to gain more knowledge and add weight to my professional profile.
I tried to search about the Certification Exams on www.microsoft.com, but not able to understand which one is for what...!!

Can someone help me in telling what are the various Certification Exams and what are their contents(Coverage).
Which certification is pre-requisite of which Exam..

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

That article is from February 2008 and has never been updated. Wonder if he ever got to finish his prep work and take any of the exams?

I took the SQL Server 2005 Imp and Maint, MCTS exam at the end of July and passed it with a very good score. The only experience I have with the software is having it installed on my home PC, and diligently studying the MS Press Training Kit text, 70-431.

If you have any sort of work experience with the software, and quickly go through the text you should be able to easily pass the exam.

The exam is comprised of roughly 25 to 35 multiple choice questions and about eight to twelve simulations. I enjoyed the exam and actually learned something while taking it.

Buy the text I noted above, it covers all the objectives. I also used study materials from Prep Logic.
