Is there anywhere I can find a tutorial of some sort of how to read/interpret execution-plans and how to optimize indexes acording to the plans?? "Begin by clicking 'Start' and then 'Programs'..." would be the kind of tutorial I need --Lumbago"Real programmers don't document, if it was hard to write it should be hard to understand" |

A book? Are you serious?? Haven't touched a book in ages...it would make me feel old I think. Heh...seriously; if it's good I would really have to consider buying it. Thanx for the suggestion |

| Also, look at "Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Performance Tuning Technical Reference" and anything Karen Delaney writes. Her "Inside SQL Server 2000" is invaluable. These two and Taras suggestion are books every DBA should have I think.Knowing these books, using BOL, and using sqlteam.com, sql-performance-tuning.com, and sqlservercentral.com are great resources. You don't have to know everything, but you should be able to find it quickly.MeanOldDBAderrickleggett@hotmail.comWhen life gives you a lemon, fire the DBA. |

| Thanx Brett, I've been using dbforums aswell and go under the nick "Frettmaestro", I think you have answered some of my posts there actually. Haven't been there alot lately though...I've used forums quite alot but I tend to use one at a time. I got kinda exited though when I found this because it has more of a personal tone than the other ones. People know eachother here and I like that. It's like a year back when I used the foums in haneng.com alot. Have many friends from there and talk to them on a daily basis on msn and I think this is the way a forum should be... |
