Question: Can you SSR2 2012 be installed on a SQL 2008 R2 instance that is already using SSRS 2008? The SQL 2008 R2 instance is not a Sharepoint server. Please advise if this is possible and if so is there potential for issues mixing the versions of SSRS?Thanks... |

Hi Gerald,Thanks for your response and from what I researched I would agree. However, a developer in my company is asking for this and sent me the below link regarding SSRS 2012 on SQL 2008 R2:http://www.toddklindt.com/blog/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=338Please read the blog and let me know your thoughts. I'm a bit confused with this particular post, but it does reference Sharepoint. Can this only be done through Sharepoint?Thank you! |

Ah OK. So this *will* install SSRS on any given machine. What it *won't* do is install SSRS shared components on a SQL Server 2008R2 instance. It will install a new instance of SQL Server 2012. Also, I believe (though haven't tested) that when you're done, the new shared components will replace the existing ones from 2008R2.Note that you *can*, however, officially install SSIS 2012 on a machine running 2008r2. |

Thanks again for your response. In my environment we are using SSRS 2008 on my SQL 2008R2 instance which will still be needed. If SSRS 2012 replaces SSRS 2008 components then this will not be an option for me then. I thought perhaps that installing SSRS 2012 will just create seperate SSRS 2012 db's and leave the current exisiting SSRS 2008 coniguration intact. Basically, I am looking to have SSRS 2008 and SSRS 2012 co-exist on the same SQL 2008 R2 instance. So,in your view this won't be possible correct? Will installing SSRS 2012 on a SQL 2008 R2 instance require a SQL 2012 R2 license? Thanks. |

AFAIK you can't do this with SSRS.Yes, you would need a license. (though there is no 2012 R2 :-)) |

So the only option for me then is a seperate SQL 2012 instance. Thanks again for your input Gerald. It's much appreciated. |
