Our DBA can't open or save any files when using SSMS. Within SSMS he browses to File -> Open File and an error comes up stating 'This operation could not be completed' There is no error code, there is nothing in the windows or sql event logs.He can't even browse to the dialog box. It doesn't let him get that far. This works perfectly for the domain administrator, so it looks like a permissions issue. I've given the DBA access to the default file location SSMS uses to no avail. I don't want to give him domain admin rights but can't think what this could be?Thanks,Nick |

Is your DBA accessing a network share or a local drive? Note that, when you start SSMS, you are in the context of your Windows login, so you can only access whatever your Windows login permits. For example, can he open the same files using Notepad? I would suppose not. His Windows login needs the permissions to do that. Nothing to do with SSMS per se. When you are accessing files on the file system, SSMS is just another editor. |

Hi, and apologies for the (very) delayed response. The folder is his own profile which is redirected via Group Policy. I've tried taking him out and giving him no GP but I receive the same error. He can browse to this location using Windows Explorer, and has full control over it. However within SSMS literally he'll click on the "Open File" button or browses to File -> Open -> (Any Option) and he'll get a 'The operation could not be completed' error.Apparently this has never worked (I've just started and the previous guy didn't fix this issue).Nick |

Does he has full control over the folder? What do you mean by "redirected"? Is it redirected to a network share?Tara KizerSQL Server MVP since 2007http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |

Yes he has Full Control over that folder. It is a network share redirected via Group Policy. |

I think you'll need to post your question in a Windows forum as this is not a SQL Server issue, or you'll need to open a case with Microsoft.Tara KizerSQL Server MVP since 2007http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |
