I have hada copy of SQL 2008 and SQL 2012 for ages on my laptop ( win7 ) and never had a problem. I use VS 2010 for my development. Suddenly yesterday I started getting errors such as 'could not load xpstar.dll or one of its references reason 193....'After many hours I decided to uninstall 2012 and go onto the Microsoft Website an install SQL 2012 Express SP1. All seemed to go well until about 75% way through the installation an error message popped up 'sql server 2012 service pack 1 setup..provider load failure'The installation seemed to continue ok but at the end it the status says all have succeeded except for Reporting Services, Database Engine Services, Full Text and SQL ReplicationAnyway I rebooted and went into SQL 2012 Management Studio but I simply cant get the Instance to openSQL 2008 is still working fineCan anyone help me with this installation error. I have heard things like WMI issues but I have no idea what that isThis is stopping all my local developmentMany thanksPeter |

If you uninstalled SQL 2012 and then installed SP1, you only updated the tools likely. You need to re-install SQL 2012 before you can add the service pack.Tara KizerSQL Server MVP since 2007http://weblogs.sqlteam.com/tarad/ |
