| I am trying to setup a Maintenance Plan for a SQL Server 2012 instance. I go to Management Studio and expand the Management tree and don't see the Maintenance Plans option. I noted from an MSDN page http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191002.aspx that in order to see those options one must be a member of the SYSADMIN server role. I was able to grant myself rights under my login (windows authentication) to be a member of the SYSADMIN role. I am still unable to see the Maintenance Plans under the Management tree. Am I missing something obvious? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration. | |

                                          | Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting after you changed your rights? Alternately, close Management Studio and re-open.=================================================There are two kinds of light -- the glow that illuminates, and the glare that obscures. -James Thurber |

                                          | Yep, it is because it is Express. What a bummer. I will have to automate the backups with scripts and a scheduler. Thank you for the responses. I appreciate the time you took to write back.James |
