| Hope someone can help with this query.I have a Perl application which uses ODBC to access a SQL Server. The Perl program makes connections to SQL Server, without user intervention, and then retrieves data from the server before using it internally.I want to be able to implement a facility which automatically detects that the SQL Server is unavailable and responds accordingly. I was hoping to use the Database Handle returned from my connection request to SQL Server, but my problem is that the connect request never times out. When I make the connection request, and SQL Server is down, my program never returns...it just waits - apparently infinitely! Is there a way to determine whether a specified server is available, or to implement a connection timeout which will return control to my Perl program?Muchos Gracias!Andy |
