I'm fairly new to database application development and have noticed that there are strong opinions on the use of BLOBs to store large chunks of data in a table. When is it appropriate to store data in a BLOB? When is an image too large to store in a BLOB? If I want to store an array of ordered pairs in a BLOB, is that any different than storing an image in a table?Being a newb, I can't tell if not storing images in the database is a matter of opinions or if it really is commonly held in the industry. If images really shouldn't be stored in the DB, why is it there as an option? Thanks. |
