| Haven't read the above but using the gui doesn't allow you to save a record of what you have done so never use it for updates.Maybe for creating databases but I don't even do that.For enquiries - maybe it is ok now - 6.5 it used to take locks so was pretty damaging to a production system.I use it for seeing if scheduled tasks are scheduled/running sometimes but that's about it.Sends a lot of data so not so good over a slow remote connection.Do almost everything in a query window and if you are just looking at a production system make sure you executeset transaction isolation level read uncommittedfirst.==========================================Cursors are useful if you don't know sql.DTS can be used in a similar way.Beer is not cold and it isn't fizzy. |

Why do IT people have to be so one sided ?I think the answer to the question of tools is "both". Use both, depending on what is most efficient for the task at hand.Just because one thing is good does not make something else bad.Damian |
