This article is based on INF: Moving SQL Server Databases to a New Location with Detach/Attach (Q224071). During the process of testing this process on a test server and moving the model and msdb databases a "funny" thing happened, the model database "disappeared". Here's what happened and why and how SQL Server dealt with the loss. Moving the system databases might be required when adding new disks or external arrays to your server or reconfiguring the RAID strategy. Article Link. |

Good one Jasper. No wonder Microsoft has the following note in Q224071NOTE: If you are using this procedure in conjunction with moving the msdb and model databases, the order of reattachment must be model first and then msdb.--HTH,Vyashttp://vyaskn.tripod.com |

Cheers VyasIts odd how deeply hardcoded the name model is when all that seems to determine it is its dbid and yet it can't recognise the fact that the database attached at dbid 3 is not in fact model and raise an error.HTHJasper Smith |

And to further re-interpret the meaning of the article title, "Life Without Model", I suppose we could ask Mr. David Copperfield, Billy Joel, Donald Trump and Johnny Depp what it's like to be without their former runway bunnies No groaning! It's not as bad as this one:http://www.sqlteam.com/Forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5126 |
